The dwelling place was the first design module module studied in fifth year. The project examined the issues involved in creating large numbers of dwellings on a site in Nottingham's city centre. The scheme was to become a medium rise housing project with a target to accomodate 1000 people on the site of the People's College on Maid Marian Way, Nottingham. Following an in depth housing study, a volume was determined that would offer flexibilty in a volume similar to that of a traditional three bedroom semi-detached suburban house. This volume was described in a module which allowed the units to be stacked up in three different orientations. This modular yet organic layout allowed an infinate number of dwelling combinations and external spaces by dividing the units with 'clip on' partitions.
